Nano Nagle is a school designated for pupils with moderate, severe and profound general learning disabilities and also caters for pupils with austistic spectrum disorders.  The school is adjacent to the Listowel Presentation Primary School.  The project involved the construction of a 2 storey extension which tied into the existing school building.

 

The new building consisted of 8 classrooms each with toilet facilities, 2 severe profound rooms, home economics room with double kitchen, multi-purpose rooms, toilets, 24 seater staff dining room, kitchen, laundry, storage, staff rooms, assembly room, quiet rooms and administration rooms.

 

The existing adjacent school remained occupied during the execution of the contract and we took all necessary precautions to protect the building and its occupants from dust, excessive noise and other interference arising from the work. .

Repair and refurbishment works to the four storey fire damaged HSE Áras Slainte building.

 

Works were carried out while the building remained in use by the HSE ensuring safe access and egress of HSE employees.  All works were carried out on a phased basis and allowances had to be made to complete the project with minimum disruption to the HSE and its staff.

 

The works included demolition to existing fire elements of the building and reinstating of same, installation of new mechanical, electrical elements and a new fire detection system to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors.

St. Finbarr’s Hospital is a public hospital on Douglas Road, Cork City.  The hospital was originally the workhouse for Cork City, constructed by the Poor Law Guardians in 1841.  After a number of extensions its name was changed to the Cork City District Hospital in 1898.  It is the main blood donation center in Cork City.

 

This project consisted of Refurbishment and alteration works to Block 23 former kitchen at St. Finbarr’s Hospital Cork, to provide child, family and adolescent psychology department.  This included the provision of accommodation, waiting rooms, WC facilities, group meeting rooms, clinic rooms, offices, canteen, hub room, file room and the introduction of a new first floor.  Works were carried out within a live hospital campus.  Dust control and infection prevention of aspergillosis measures were employed during renovation.

 

Installation of new electrical, data, fire detection and mechanical packages including anti ligature elements.

St. Francis Special School is located within the grounds of St. Mary of the Angels Residential and Training Centre in Beaufort.  The school provides educational services to pupils aged between 4 and 18 years who have been assessed to have a moderate, severe or profound general learning disability.

 

The project consisted of renovation works to the existing school and an extension of approx. 540m2 which included 4 classrooms, WC facilities, student lunch room, kitchen staff room and meeting room.  New mechanical, electrical, fire detection and transactive xtra hoist systems were installed as part of the project.  External works included both hard and soft landscaping, providing a new soft play area for the pupils.

 

The drainage consisted of new soak way pits for the storm water and the installation of a new wastewater treatment plant for the grey water.  Works were carried out within a live campus and adjacent to the live school.  Stringent control measures were put in place for dust, noise, vibration and security control.  All deliveries to site were scheduled to opportune times with works also taking place out of hours to minimize disruption to the school its staff and its students.

St. Josephs Presentation Convent is a girls secondary school under the trusteeship of the Catholic Education an Irish schools trust (CEIST).

 

The school has a current enrolment of 171 girls.  The school is listed in the record of protected structures and is a prominent fixture in the locality.

 

The works consisted of 1,700m2 of roof remedial works, window replacements, internal floor finishes, removal of existing asbestos contaminated floor coverings and ceiling replacement.  All works were completed out of normal working hours.k

St. Bridgid’s Presentation School Killarney was first constructed in 1803, in 1950 the Presentation Sisters opened the building as a secondary school and 1984 the present extension was completed.

 

It has now an enrolment of over 500 pupils.  Griffin Brothers completed a total upgrade to the existing roof and thermal properties.

 

The works completed at St. Bridgid’s were carried out on a live campus, an extensive safety management plan was implemented and maintained throughout the project.

Griffin Brothers were appointed main contractor and PSCS for a number of specific projects within the University Hospital Kerry complex.  The hospital mainly caters for people from Kerry, North Cork and West Limerick.

 

It treats over 18,500 inpatients, 40,000 outpatients, there are over 34,000 visitors to the accident & emergency department along with over 1800 arrivals in the maternity wards annually.  The main hospital building is three storeys and was opened in 1984.  There are over 370 beds in the hospital.  Griffin Brothers completed the following works within the hospital complex:

 

• Complete re-roofing of the main building comprising of 3,000m2

• Replacement of windows and external doors to the southern elevation of the building

• Refurbishment of the Annagh ward

• Works to watermain within the hospital complex

 

Due to the requirement of maintaining a fully functional hospital to the southwest region, the above works needed to be completed swiftly, in an organized and safe manner without compromise to quality, hygiene, the hospital, its staff and patients.  All works were carried within a live hospital environment.

The existing school is listed on the record of protected structures.  The new extension works involved odex piling, suspended ground floor slab, finish block construction, combined roof construction of structural steel, timber and slate.  The construction works provided the school with 6 no. classrooms, 1 resource room and ancillary facilities.  Works were carried out within a live campus and adjacent to the live school.

 

Stringent control measures were put in place for noise, dust, vibration and security control.  The project was completed on program and on budget.

The Tralee IT construction project is mainly over two floors the in cooperates conventional construction with concrete strip and pad foundations with finished block/brick cavity walls and R.C concrete beams and columns, first floor slab is a mixture of insitu and precast concrete slab, the roof is generally metal standing seam on steel beams and trusses.

 

The project involved extensive mechanical, electrical and lift installations, major external and site development works were carried out involving drainage, landscaping and roadways.
